Nelson Ferrer was raised in the streets of Brooklyn, New York… and is no stranger to ministry. Nelson is the youngest of 13 children. His family has been involved in ministry all his life. After being enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps for 8 years, and serving a tour in Desert Storm, Nelson entered the business world with a degree in Marketing. He eventually founded and ran his own Design Firm for 5 years. While in the business world, Nelson recognized and accepted the call to ministry, serving in church leadership. It was during his 4 year tenure at his church where Nelson answered God’s call to plant a church. So after stepping down from his position as Director of Missions & Outreach, Nelson and his wife Amelia embarked on their journey in late December 2014 to plant a church.
Nelson’s biggest passion has always been missions and outreach. He grew up with parents who always served their neighbors, either by cooking and delivering meals or being involved in inner city youth ministry programs. Since then, his heart to reach others has always beat passionately. He is no stranger to missions either, having served in other countries to feed, encourage and aid in the building of foreign ministries. His first language is Spanish which has helped him serve that community in and out of the U.S.
Nelson’s vision is for Alive Church to be a life giving, outward reaching, and loving church where people can connect with God and know His love. He has been set free by the love of God and wants people in Bradenton to be transformed by strong biblical teaching, to become passionate disciples, and to love others with action. As he is well known for saying, “I’m not here to make members of a church, I am here to raise up disciples of Jesus Christ.”
